Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 opened their home season with a double header split against East Grand Forks on Monday night at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.  East Grand won the opener 5-1 and Post 30 took the nightcap 4-1.

Game one was scoreless until the sixth inning when East Grand Forks struck for three runs on three hits and two errors.  Fergus Falls responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth but East Grand added two runs in the seventh.  The loss went to Cole Fronning (6.1IP, 3H, 4R, 3ER, 3BB, 9K).  Jayden Ollila finished the seventh inning, recording a pair of strikeouts.  Nathan Zierden, Marshall King, Austin Stanislawski, Nic Pearson and Michael Wiederich all recorded hits for Post 30.

Ashwin Stratton (6IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 4BB, 10K) earned the win and Brock Kotschevar (1IP, 0H, 0R) the save in the second game.  Post 30 opened the scoring in the second when Cole Knudson doubled and Zierden laid down a perfectly placed bunt to put runners on first and third with nobody out.  King grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Knudson and then stole second and third before scoring on a RBI single by Maanum.  Fergus Falls tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Zierden drew a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by King and scored on a double by Maanum.  Stanislawski then delivered a double to score Maanum.  Maanum and Pearson each had multiple hit games.

“It’s too bad we wasted a good start from Cole Fronning in game one,” said Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “Cole definitely threw the ball well enough to win.  We needed someone to step up with that big hit with two outs.  I was happy to see the boys back at it in game two.  Our energy was much better and Stratton pitched a whale of a game.  He kept hitters off balance all night with a great fastball and good curveballs and change-ups.  We need to continue to pay attention to the small details to keep improving as a team.”

Post 30 continues a busy week with Alexandria coming to town for a double header starting at 5:00pm Tuesday at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park.
