Breckenridge Post 53 picked up a win in their home opener on Monday, beating Barnesville by the score of 3-0.

Mitch Porter did a great job on the mound tonight throwing all 7 innings,” said Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “He struck out 6, gave up 6 hits and the key to his success was he only walked one Barnesville batter.”

The score was tied 0-0 after 3 1/2 innings when Breckenridge finally got on the board when Porter led off with a single, Emmitt Vig followed with another single, Jack Aigner sacrificed the runners to 2nd and 3rd and Tommy Hiedeman’s one out single scored Porter for the first run of the game. Post 53 added another run in the bottom of the 5th when Hunter Feigum was hit by a pitch and stole 2nd base and Tyson Piechowski picked up a clutch 2 out single scoring Feigum. In the 6th inning Breckenridge added one more insurance run when Max Johnson singled, Carter Haugen sacrificed Johnson to 2nd and Feigum singled scoring Johnson.

“Another positive on the night was Jake Wendorff who did a great job at 3rd base tonight,” added Hiedeman. “He made 2 really nice plays and threw a runner out at home.”

Tuesday night the Legion plays Parkers Prairie after the 5pm Junior Legion game - starting around 7pm. The local group Quilts of Valor will be presenting quilts to three local veterans in between the games.
