The Fergus Falls Otters 10u baseball team went to the Eye of the Tiger tournament in Morris on Saturday. The Otters won their quarterfinal game against Minnewaska 25-15 and the semifinal game against Morris 3-1. Unfortunately, Mother Nature intervened and the Otters were rained out of the championship game.

In game one, the Otters jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the top of the first with Nolan Felstul (2 runs), Brody Krein, Luke Johnson, Jacob Jenc, Tanner Donaghue, John Abrahams, Kadyn Zender, Levi Budke, Easton Hanson, Benett Thielke, Josh Horgen, and Caleb Fronning all scoring runs. Minnewaska battled back with 10 runs of their own in the bottom of the first and the Otters responded by scoring 5 runs in the top of the second with Kellen Funkhouser, Abrahams, Zender, Budke, and Hanson all scoring. The Otters scored 7 more runs in the game with Jenc, Donaghue, and Funkhouser scoring in the 3rd, Thielke, Horgen, and Fronning scoring in the 4th, and Johnson scoring in the 5th. Hitting leaders for the Otters in game one were Fronning (2b), Felstul (2 hits), Krein (1b), Johnson (3 hits), Jenc (1b), Funkhouser (2 hits), Abrahams (1b), Zender (1b), Hanson (2 hits), and Thielke (2b).

The second game was a pitcher’s duel with Krein pitching a complete game for the Otters. Krein threw six innings and struck out 13. The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Thielke singled, and scored, Horgen reached on an error and scored and Fronning hit a double and scored. Hitting leaders for the Otters were Fronning with a double, Felstul with a single, Krein with a double, and Thielke with a single.

“Brody Krein pitched one of the best games that I have seen at this level,” said coach Chad Felstul. “He only threw 63 pitches in 6 innings, didn’t walk a batter, and threw only 9 balls all game.  These two games were very different and I am proud of the ways the boys were able win the games in two very different ways.”

With the two wins, the 10u Otters move to 15-2 on the season and host West Fargo on Thursday, June 20 at Red Sox Park at 5:30 p.m.
