The Fergus Falls Hurricanes suffered a 4-1 loss to the Bluffton Braves on Sunday afternoon in Bluffton.

The Braves scored in the bottom of the first inning when Tom Tellers drew a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Justin Dykhoff.  They added a run in the bottom of the third when Tellers again led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.  Bluffton made it 3-0 with another run in the fifth.  Tellers reached on an error with one out, advanced to second on a single by Cody Geiser and scored on a two-out single by Justin Dykhoff.

The only run scored by Fergus Falls came in the top of the eighth when Jake Anderson doubled and Dan Revering brought him home with a base hit.  The Braves got the run back in the bottom of the eighth when Jake Dykhoff walked and took second on a bunt single by Kyle Dykhoff.  A single by Justin Dykhoff loaded the bases and a ground out off the bat of Sam Tellers brought home Jake Dykhoff.

Jake Dykhoff (7IP, 10K, 2BB, 7H, 1ER) was the winning pitcher.  Eric Salvesen (6IP, 4K, 3BB, 4H, 1ER) took the loss.

The Hurricanes got a runner to third base in each of the first five innings but could not get a clutch hit to score any runs.  They also had two runners tagged out at home on base running mistakes.  Fergus Falls got a walk and a single to start the ninth inning, but again could not get a clutch hit to make things interesting.

“Eric Salvesen pitched well and deserved better in his first start as a ‘Cane, losing to his current M State Spartan teammate, Jake Dykhoff,” said Hurricanes manager Davey Johnson.

The Hurricanes will participate in the Elrosa Tournament on Saturday at noon against the Tri-City Sharks.
