Perham Advances to Consolation Finals

A single by Maddux Kovash in the top of the seventh inning drove home Sam Still, which provided Perham (23-3) with the winning run in a 10-9 decision over Glencoe-Silver Lake (19-7) on Friday, June 14 in Class AA tournament play in St. Cloud.

In an offensive showcase, Glencoe-Silver Lake opened the contest with a run in the first inning, which was followed by three runs from Perham in the top of the second inning. In the fourth inning, Perham ignited for four more runs to take a 7-2 lead. Glencoe-Silver Lake got back into the mix with one run in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth to tie the contest at 9-9. In the game, Perham outhit Glencoe-Silver Lake 13-6 as Dawson Stevens was the winning pitcher in relief for Perham.

At the plate, Carter Mulcahy notched three hits, one RBI and one run, while Kovash had two hits, two RBI and one run, Stevens had two hits and two runs and Noah Rooney had two hits and two RBI. Gabe Roepke led Glencoe-Silver Lake with one hit and three runs scored.

Perham survived 13 walks issued by three of their four pitchers.  Stevens struck out three of the four batters he faced in relief and four of the runs allowed by the Yellowjackets were unearned.

Perham will play for the consolation title in Class AA at three o’clock against the winner of the La Crescent versus Foley contest.  The game will be played at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
