Perham Falls to Paynesville in AA Baseball State Quarterfinal Contest

In the quarterfinal round of the MSHSL Class AA baseball tournament on Thursday, June 13, Paynesville (22-2) charted a 3-2 victory over Perham (22-3) at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.

Paynesville tallied three runs in the third inning to gain the win as pitcher Grady Fuchs posted the complete game victory with seven strikeouts and four hits allowed. In the third, Paynesville's Luke Johnson doubled to earn two RBI and a throw to third advanced the third run for Paynesville. Fuchs and Zach Schroeder also had two hits apiece for Paynesville in the game.

Perham's Sam Still tripled in the third and later scored to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Perham's Finn Diggins scored to make the final score 3-2.   Losing pitcher Noah Rooney went all seven innings for the Yellowjackets, striking out eleven batters.

Perham will now face Glencoe-Silver Lake in the consolation semifinals at 10:00am Friday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.  The winner of that game will play again at 3:00pm for the consolation title.
