Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 opened their summer baseball season on Tuesday night in Morris by blanking Morris Post 29, 11-0.

A Cole Fronning 2-out single in the first inning put Fergus Falls in front right away.  Post 30 added a pair of runs in the top of the second inning and went on to score in every inning but the third where they threatened with the bases loaded and two outs, but couldn’t get the hit they wanted.

Mike Maanum (3IP, 2H, 3K, 0R) started on the mound and picked up the win.  “Maanum was fantastic tonight,” said third year Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “He threw only 35 pitches in his three innings of work and of those 35 pitches, 25 were for strikes!  It was fun to sit back and watch Mike throw strike one to hitter after hitter.”

Nathan Zierden pitched a scoreless fourth inning, recording one strikeout and Jaydon Ollila pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three batters, giving up not hits and one walk.  Michael Wiederich finished the game by throwing a scoreless seventh inning.

Seven of the nine Otter starters collected at least one hit and five different players had at least one RBI.  Wiederich led the hitting attack, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.  Nic Pearson also enjoyed the day, going 3-for-3 and just missing a home run in the second inning.

Post 30 travels to Brainerd on Wednesday for two games at 5 and 7 pm.

Coach Larson is assisted by Peter Gaustad and Tosten Mann.
