Hokanson Sets Class A Pole Vault Record, Viking Girls Win 4x400

Perham senior Ashley Hokanson repeated as the Class A State Girls Pole Vault champion on Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul, establishing a new Class A State Record in the process when she cleared 12-feet-7-inches.  The Pelican Rapids 4x400 relay team won the state title in their event with a time of 3:59.56. Members of the relay team are Maddie Guler, Abby Syverson, Tatianna Wiley and Chloe Paulson.

 

Wiley also earned a medal in the 400 meter dash for the Vikings, placing sixth with a time of 59.50 seconds.  Eli Sytsma took seventh place in the triple jump (42-10.00) on Friday.

 

For Perham, Brandon O’Hara was a double medal winner, placing second on Friday in the 3200 (9:35.80) and fifth on Saturday in the 1600 (4:29.69).  Colton Kostynick was seventh in the discus (144-02).  The Girls 4x800 relay team of Lacy Richter, Liz Birkeland, Caitlin Covington and Hailey Wegscheid placed fifth (9:48.77) and the boys 4x800 relay team of

Chase Belka, Bailey Evenson, Jacob McCleary and Clayton Anderson came in third (8:06.55).

 

The Ottertail Central girls 4x200 relay team earned an eighth place medal with a time of 1:48.12.  Team members included Erika Heibel, Brooke Hovland, Kylie Frederick and Grace VanErp.

 

Samantha Passa of Barnesville placed sixth in the triple jump (35-06.25).

 

Frazee had three hurdlers earn medals with Joby Geifer taking eighth (16.10) in the boys 110 hurdles, and Paige Ziegler (15.60) and Jaryn Johansen (16.17) taking third and seventh place, respectively, in the girls 100 hurdles.


In Class AA competition, Fergus Falls senior Robert Sewell ended up in fifth place (22-02.50).
