Perham Win Section 8AA Baseball Title

The Perham baseball team is headed to the Minnesota Class AA State Tournament after posting a 9-5 win over Wadena-Deer Creek in the Section 8AA championship game on Thursday at Al Krueger Field at Tuffy’s Stadium in Perham.

 

Dawson Stevens, Carter Mulcahy and Maddux Kovash each homered in the game, with Stevens driving in four runs, Mulcahy going 4-fpr-4 at the plate with four runs scored and Kovash contributing a pair of RBI and 2 runs scored.  Kovash (7IP, 8H, 5R, 2ER, 4BB, 4K) was the winning pitcher for the Yellowjackets.

 

Wadena-Deer Creek jumped out to a 5-1 lead after three innings, but Perham scored twice in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3 and then rallied for five runs in the sixth to take an 8-5 lead.  They added an insurance run in the seventh. Perham collected ten hits in the game. Josh Jeziorski was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Noah Rooney had a triple in two at bats, knocking in two runs.


Freshman Payton Pondestvedt led the Wolverines with a two-run home run and Maxwell Phillips was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
