The M State Spartans shot the low team round of the day with a 311, giving them a two-day total of 628 and putting them one stroke in front of the competition after two rounds of the NJCAA Division III National Championship Wednesday at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

There was a two hour rain delay in the middle of the round.  Georgia Military shot a 314 and is second with a 629. Sandhills CC shot a 316 and is two shots back at 630, in third place.

Hunter Moen led the Spartans with a 76.  His two day total of 151 puts him second individually, one shot behind the leader, Trey Capps of Sandhills CC.  Capps fired a 73 on Wednesday and has a 150.  Wyatt Blomseth shot a 77 and Blake Bloedorn shot a 78.  Bloedorn is tied for sixth with a two-day total of 153.  Blomseth and fellow Spartan Carter Justesen are tied for twenty-fourth place with scores of 162.  Justesen had an 80 on Wednesday. Austin Miller improved from his 90 on Tuesday to record an 84 on Wednesday for a two-day score of 174.

“We played some very nice golf today,” commented M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “We got off to one of the better starts I can remember on our first nine and then rain came and we struggled a bit after the two hour delay, but the guys really hung in there all day and you can see each player getting more comfortable.  We feel like our best golf is still out there. Hunter played excellent golf again and Wyatt was a rock for us, putting up a very nice round. At the halfway points we have put ourselves where we need to be. It will be exciting to be paired with two outstanding golf program in Georgia Military and Sandhills on Thursday.”

The Spartans will tee off at 8:00am Central Time for round three.
