Spartan golfers Blake Bloedorn and Hunter Moen tied for the low round of the day with 75’s.  Carter Justesen had an 82, Wyatt Blomseth an 85 and Austin Miller a 90.

“It’s great to be in Chautauqua again on a challenging course that played tough today,” said Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “As a team we struggled with the putter and feel that is something that will improve in the upcoming days.  Blake and Hunter really carried us.  Blake had one of the better ball striking rounds I can remember in our years here.  Hunter had a great back nine with three birdies and hit a lot of quality shots.  This tourney is a four day marathon, so we are pleased with our position after the first round.”

The Spartans will tee off on Wednesday at 8:40am for round two.  This is their eighth consecutive appearance as a team at the National Tournament, the longest current streak in NJCAA Division III Golf.  M State has finished in the top five all seven years.
