Fergus Falls and Perham are second and third, respectively, after one round of competition in the Section 8AA Girls Golf Meet at Town and Country Club in Bemidji.  Detroit Lakes leads the pack with a 313, followed by the Otters at 360, Perham at 362 and Crookston at 378.  Roseau (379) and Park Rapids Area (395) round out the team scoring.

Individually, the Lakers are 1-2-3 after the first day, led by Shelby Busker with a one-under par 71 and Anna Cihak with an even par 72.  McKenna Mallow came in third with a 79.  Perham golfers Allie King (83) and Mallory Belka (83) tied for fourth place.

Fergus Falls was led by Greta Christenson with an 86 and Ellia Soydara with an 87.  Amy Johnson came in with a 93, Lexi McGary finished with a 94, Madi Eklund had a 97, and Thea Eklund fired a 107.

"I am so proud of the girls," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  "They worked so hard on the golf course today to shoot their scores.  I am so happy for Lexi McGary, she has worked so hard and has been so patient while reconstructing her swing, this score means a lot not only to our team but also to Lexi.  Greta and Ellia posted two very impressive rounds and after day 1 are inside the individual state tournament cut line.  Amy Johnson hit the ball really well today and I think she will play well tomorrow. Mady Eklund played a very nice back nine today so we hope that gives her confidence going forward into day 2.  Thea Eklund is continuing to gain very valuable experience by playing in all these varsity meets which will serve her well.  Currently our team is in second place and we are so excited to have the opportunity to try and build on our round from today, however, in order to do that we will need to play really well tomorrow as we are only 2 strokes ahead of a very talented Perham team.
