“Robert battled an injury all week,” noted Fergus Falls Head Coach Randy Hansen. “To still come out on top is a testament to his competitiveness.”
Fronning did not qualify for state in the 100 meter hurdles as she finished sixth (15.72). The Otters had a good showing in the pole vault, but didn’t qualify any vaulters for state. Jadyn McKeever was sixth (9-04.00), Hallie Sheridan was eighth (9-01.00) and Sophie Rausch was tenth (8-07.00).
"All our vaulters had a great day with Sophie just missing placing," said Head Coach Niki Welde. "This was one of our overall, strongest events."
The Otter girls 4 x 100 relay team ended up fifth (50.30), setting a new school record in the process. The team of Miranda Hoffman, Ashlyn Fronning, Anna Anderson and Sabrina Fronning broke the record that had stood since 1982 and was established by Lois Nulph, Joni Stoa, Holly Farrar and Sharon Kunz.
"We have been chasing this record for many years," said Coach Welde. "Our athletes took the record from a really talented group of women. We realized we were within reach of the goal last month. The girls worked so hard and it all paid off. We will see if this one can stand 37 years."
Fronning, Hansen and Sewell will be in the Class AA State Tournament at Hamline University on Friday and Saturday.
