The Fergus Falls 12U Maroon team played their first games of the summer as they opened their schedule against Wahpeton at their Chahinkapa Park field.

Game one saw the Otters score 17 runs on 13 hits as they routed the host team 17-0.   Fergus wasted no time getting on the board as they scored 10 runs in the top of the first. Jack Ratz, Cam Wiederich, Luke Pearson, Jaden Miller, Aiden Schake, and Carson Grenier all had hits that drove in runs.

The Otters scored a crooked number again in the third. Jacob Fronning’s triple drove in Miller after he had singled. After a couple of walks, Carston Fronning singled to score two runs. Aikhem Bethel hit a double to drive in two more runs to finish off the 5 run inning.

The last two runs of the game were driven in by Jacob Fronning’s double that scored Brock Scheuerman and Pearson after they had both singled.

Carston Fronning and Parker Thielke combined to pitch a four inning no-hitter.  They both pitched two innings. Fronning struck out four hitters while Thielke struck out five.

Runs in the second game were harder to come by for the Otters as they lost a close game 5-4.  Bethel got the Otters on the board in the first inning as his single drove in Carston Fronning to score the first run of the game.

After the host team tied the game in the bottom of the first, Scheuerman drew a walk, stole second, advance to third and then scored on a passed ball to help the Otters regain the lead.

Wahpeton evened the score at two in their half of the second only to see the Otters take the lead right back after Bethel scored Miller with a solid single to right.

Wahpeton scored two runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead at 4-3. The Otters tied it up in the top of the fourth when Jacob Fronning scored Pearson with a single to center.

The host team scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. The Otters loaded the bases in the 5th inning, but were unable to plate any runs.  Scheuerman led off the 6th with a single, but was unable to advance past second base.

Bethel pitched two innings, gave up two runs, and struck out four batters.  Jacob Fronning pitched two innings, gave up three runs, and struck out five batters. Scheuerman pitched a scoreless inning while striking out two batters.

“Considering it was our first games after only two practices, I think things went really well,” said Head Coach Kevin Pearson.  “There were many positive things that happened tonight. This going to be a fun summer with this crew.  I have no doubt that after numerous practices and many games, this team will improve immensely.”
