Perham Dominates in Wins Over Pequot Lakes and Breckenridge

Top-seeded Perham won a pair of five inning contests in the Section 8AA baseball playoffs on Thursday at Al Krueger Field at Tuffy’s Stadium in Perham, beating Pequot Lakes 14-2 and Breckenridge 15-1 to remain unbeaten in the double elimination tournament.

A six run first inning got the Yellowjackets going against Pequot Lakes.  They added a pair of runs in the third, a single run in the fourth and closed out the game with a five-run fifth.  Perham had 12 hits in the game and capitalized on four errors by Pequot Lakes.  Josh Jeziorski knocked in six runs, going 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and scoring three times.  Carter Mulcahy drove in three runs with a single and a triple in three at bats, scoring twice.  Noah Rooney had 2 RBI, going 1-for-2 at the plate and Dawson Stevens had two hits in three at bats, scoring twice.  Sam Still was 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored and Mike Benke had a hit and one run batted in.  Maddux Kovash pitched all five innings, struck out four, walked one, gave up six hits and allowed two earned runs.

In the win over Breckenridge, Perham scored four first inning runs, exploded for seven in the third and added four more in the fourth.  The Yellowjackets had 13 hits in the game and the Cowboys committed three errors in the field.  Benke was 1-2 with a double, a walk, a sacrifice fly and four runs batted in, along with two runs scored.  Kovash (3-4, 2B, RBI, 3R), Rooney (1-2, HR, 3RBI, R), Jeziorski (1-2, 3B, 2RBI, 2R), Mulcahy (2-3, 2R), Chayse Solberg (2-2, 2B, RBI, R) and Stevens (1-2, RBI, 2R) led Perham at the plate.  Rooney (3IP, 2H, ER, 2BB, 4K) was the winning pitcher.  Benke and Finn Diggins each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.  Breckenridge was led by Hunter Feigum with two singles and a run scored.

Perham will now face East Grand Forks at 4:30pm Tuesday in Perham, while Breckenridge play an elimination game at 2:00pm Tuesday, also in Perham.
