Brandon-Evansville posted an 11-3 victory over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on Thursday and then lost to top-seeded New York Mills 17-0 in Section 6A baseball playoff action in Browerville.  B-E will now play in an elimination contest at 2:30pm Tuesday, June 4 at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.

In their win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, Brandon-Evansville put up five runs in the fourth inning.  Tyler Bitzan, Gaven Jacobson and Corbin Olson all drove in runs in that inning for the Chargers.  B-E had nine hits in the game with Olson, Bitzan and Keagan Schiele contributing two hits apiece.  Tony Schaffran (4IP, 2H, 0R, 1K) was the winning pitcher.

“I thought Tony Schaffran did a really nice job on the mound and his defense backed him up playing errorless ball,” commented B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  “We were patient at the plate and rand the bases well and we had quite a few different guys step up offensively when we needed them.”

Against New York Mills the Chargers loaded the bases in the top of the first inning, but failed to score.  It was all Eagles after that.

“Against high caliber teams like New York Mills you need to take advantage of those opportunities to try and gain momentum,” said Perleberg.  “In the bottom of the first things just fell apart and after that Mills got on a roll.  They are a very good team and you just have to tip your hat to them because today they played an excellent game.”
