The West Central Area softball team ended their season with a 19-5 record with the outcome of their two games on Thursday at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.  The Knights survived in a wild elimination game with Frazee, beating the Hornets 15-11, but then were no-hit by Tiffany Thompson as the New York Mills Eagles eliminated WCA with a 13-0, five inning victory.

West Central Area banged out nineteen hits in their win over Frazee, led by Lexi Bright who had three triples, a single, four runs batted in and four runs scored in five at bats.  Hailey Hansen (4-5, 2B, RBI, R), Madi Hansen (3-4, 2B, SB, 3R), Hailey Bennett (2-5, 2B, 2RBI, 2R) and Kayleigh Anderson (2-4, RBI, R) also contributed offensively.  WCA capitalized on six Frazee errors, leading to seven unearned runs.

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Bright led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball.  Bennett then doubles, Hailey Hansen singled and Bennett scored on an error.  Frazee answered with a five-run bottom of the first with RBI singles from Brenna Mahoney and Malena Mahoney and a bases loaded triple by McKenna O’Brien.

West Central Area regained the lead with four runs in the second inning as Bright delivered another triple, knocking in a pair of runs, Bennet came through with a run-scoring single and Hailey Hansen contributed a RBI double.  They extended their lead to 9-5 with three unearned runs in the third, however, Frazee got one back in the third and added three in the fourth to tie the game at 9-9.    Two unearned runs in the top of fifth put the Knights back on top, 11-9.  They made it 13-9 with two in the sixth and 15-9 with two more in the seventh, including one on Bright’s third triple of the day.  Frazee pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the final at 15-11.  Anissa Antonsen led the Hornets, going 3-for-4 with a run batted in and two runs scored.  Madi Starry came through with a pair of RBI and O’Brien finished with four runs batted in on the day.  The Hornets drew eleven walks in the game, stranded eleven baserunners and had two runners thrown out on the bases in the fourth inning.

The win by WCA advanced them to the championship against six-time defending Section 6A champ, New York Mills.   Thompson struck out six and walked two in her five-inning no-hitter and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, four runs batted in, a walk and a run scored.  Kenna Salo drove in two runs with a double and a bases loaded walk, and Karli Kawlewski blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning.  Harley Wurst contributed a pair of singles, a walk and two runs.  Knight pitchers continued to battle their control, issuing seven walks and hitting two batters.

New York Mills will open up defense of their back-to-back Class A titles at 11:00am Thursday, June 6 at Caswell Park in Mankato.
