“We are excited about advancing as a team to the second day of sections,” said WCA Head Coach Kari Kreft. “We knew we would probably have some individuals that would qualify, but felt earning the team spot might be out of our reach. We were happy to be proven wrong.”
Rachel Halvorson of Lac qui Parle Valley was the first day medalist with an 80. Her teammates, Isabella Stender (88) and Sarah Halvorson (90) sit in second and third place. Jessica St. Martin of West Central Area fired a 92 and is in fourth place. Mikayla Rasset of Ortonville is fifth with a 93.
Other West Central Area scores included a 104 from Kate Wrolson, a 119 from Lexi Poyzer and a 132 from Libby Poyzer. Lexi Hunter (134) and Emily Courrier (163) rounded out the scoring for the lady Knights.
“Jessica had a great day,” noted Coach Kreft. “Last year’s section experience at the challenging Eagle Creek Golf Club paid off. Jessica seemed comfortable and ready for the task at hand. She played solid golf and is in fourth place as we enter day two of the tournament. Kate had a solid 104 and felt good about her game, especially the three pars she earned. The creek proves to be tricky and is strategically placed ‘everywhere’ as some of the golfers mentioned. We did have our share of penalty strokes today, but positive attitudes shared by great kids who persevered kept us in the hunt.”
