New York Mills Hands WCA First Loss in 6A Softball Playoffs

New York Mills batted around in the fourth and sixth innings of their game against West Central Area on Tuesday in the Section 6A softball tournament at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood, scoring 11 of their 13 runs in those two innings on the way to a 13-0 ten-run rule victory over the Knights.

Mills managed only seven hits in the game, but capitalized on eight walks, a hit batter and 3 WCA errors which led to 11 unearned runs.  The win was the ninth consecutive victory for the Eagles who are now 22-2.

Senior Annika Frost led the Eagles by going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored.  Grace Christenson had a pair of singles and 3 runs batted in, Malaysia Gilster contributed a pinch-hit RBI double, Tiffany Thompson walked three times, stole two bases and scored a pair of runs, and Harley Wurst walked twice, was hit by a pitched ball, stole a base and scored twice.

Thompson (6IP, 5H, 0R, 1BB, 10K) went the distance to earn the win, improving her season record in the circle to 12-0.

Lexi Bright (2-3, 2B) led the Knights at the plate.  The loss ended a 13 game winning streak for the Knights and dropped their record to 18-4 on the season.

Frazee eliminated CGB 12-11, coming from an 11-9 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning, and then knocked Upsala out of the tournament with a 10-4 win.  The Hornets will face West Central Area in an elimination game on Thursday at 1:00pm with a berth opposite New York Mills awaiting the winner in the championship series at 3:00pm Thursday.  A 5:00 pm contest will be played to decide the Section 6A champion in New York Mills loses the three o’clcok game.
