Hurricanes Defeat Frazee-Vergas

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes posted a 5-2 win over the Frazee-Vergas Loons on Sunday afternoon at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park.  Thomas Bosek (6IP, 11K, 0BB, 2H, 0R) earned the win and Eric Salveson (3IP, 6K, 0BB, 2H, 1ER) picked up the save.

The ‘Canes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when a two-out double by Tosten Mann scored Alex Hensch who had walked.  Fergus Falls made it 2-0 when Tommy Hiedeman led off the fifth with a walk and stole second base.  He was bunted to third by Erik Hiedeman and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sean McGuire.

In the seventh inning the Hurricanes increased their lead to 5-0.  Salveson led off with a single and McGuire drew a walk.  Hensch bunted for a single and the throw to first base sailed wide, allowing Salveson to score and McGuire to reach third base.  Bosek then singled home McGuire and Hensch came home a ground ball out off the bat of Mann.

Frazee-Vergas pushed across two runs in the eighth after two outs were recorded.  Ryan Aarhus reached on a third strike passed ball.  Rory Drews tripled to score Aarhus and a single by Jake Bachmann scored Drews.

Hensch (1-1, 2R, 3BB, 3SB) and Tommy Hiedeman (1-2, R, 2BB, 3SB) led the Hurricanes at the plate and Drews (2-4, 3B, RBI, R) led the Loons.

Fergus Falls will head to the Morris Tournament Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2.  They open play against Starbuck on Friday night at 8:30.
