The Pelican High School team lost to the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels on Thursday by scores of 7-2 and 9-0.

In the first game, the Vikings kept it close at 4-2 until DGF scored 3 in the top of the 7th.   DGF scored once in the first and 3rd innings and twice in the 4th before the Vikings scored one of their own in the bottom of the 4th on 3 walks, the last of which to Logan Fahje, forcing in a run.  Johnny Ziebel’s single was the only hit in the inning.  Pelican’s other run came in the 5th when Hayden Christenson led off with a double (his 2nd hit of the game) and went to 3rd when the ball was misplayed in the outfield.  One out later he scored on Brock Sjolie’s ground out.  Reggie Funk was the starting pitcher and was relieved by Fahje and Damian Britten in the 7th.   Tim Guler did the catching.

In the 2nd game, the Rebels scored in 4 of their 6 innings behind 11 hits to defeat the Vikings 9-0.  DGF pitcher Tanner Tahran took a no hitter into the 6th inning before Hayden Christenson singled.  Pelican’s only other hit was a pinch hit single by Ishmael Majia in the 7th.  Weston Funk started on the mound for the Vikings, going the first 3 innings before being relieved by Damian Britten in the 4th.  Reggie Funk did the catching.

“Defensively, we played pretty better than we have recently but we still struggle offensively,” reported Assistanc Coach Steve Babb.  “Patrick Pechtel made several nice plays in the outfield.  DGF has a good team and the good thing about these games were that they earned the victories instead of us giving it to them.   Also, Adam Johnson emptied the bench in the 2nd game so everyone on Varsity got some playing time.”

The playoffs start on Thursday against a team to be determined.  The Vikings finished the regular season at 3-15 and 1-11 in the HOL.
