The season ended on Thursday for the Brandon-Evansville softball team with losses to New York Mills (5-1) and Browerville/Eagle Valley (4-2) in the Section 6A Tournament in Frazee.

The Chargers managed only three hits against Eagles pitcher Tiffany Thompson (7IP, 3H, 0ER, 7K, 1BB).  Mikenna Pattrin (6IP, 6H, 4ER, 1BB, 5K) took the loss in the circle for B-E.

New York Mills scored two first inning runs on an RBI double by Karli Kawlewski and a sacrifice fly by Sierra Gerber.  The Chargers scored an unearned run in the third to cut the lead in half.  The Eagles added three runs in the third inning with Kawlewski scoring the first on the back end of a double steal.  Gerber delivered a RBI single and then scored on a triple by Grace Christensen.

“New York Mills is a very tough team and just got the timely hits we couldn’t seem to get in the first game today,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kasi Sieling.  “We played good team defense, but they were able to find the gaps and move runners around.  Offensively, we just weren’t able to really get anything started to put the pressure on the Eagles.”

In their loss to Browerville/Eagle Valley the Chargers took a 2-0 lead before the Tigers scored four in the fourth inning.  B-E was led by Bailey Schaefer (2-4), Alena Shores (2-3, R) and Korrie Randt (2-3, RBI).

“We played well the first two innings of this game, but gave up that one big inning, which made the difference,” commented Sieling.  “This is a game of inches and we were right there the whole game, but just couldn’t break through.  Defensively, we played five solid innings, but they took advantage in the fourth and we couldn’t dig out of it.  We struggled to find our groove in the box and wake our bats up.  Browerville is a very talented team and came out ahead tonight.  It’s never easy to see a season come to an end, but I’m extremely proud of how hard the girls battled against two of the top teams in Class A.  These young athletes worked very hard all season and did everything we asked of them as a coaching staff and each one of them showed tremendous growth from beginning to end of the season.  We have a lot of good athletes returning and will continue to focus on the positives from this season as well as how we can grow and improve to get further next season.  Our seniors, Christine Roers, Kerryn Lund and Alena Shores are going to be greatly missed and the program is in a better place because of their contributions.  I know they will go on to do excellent things in their lives and I can’t wait to watch their journeys.”

Browerville will go on to an elimination game against Upsala at 4:00pm Tuesday at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.

New York Mills went on to beat Frazee 11-10 in nine innings to remain unbeaten in the double elimination tournament.  The Eagles will now face West Central Area at 5:30pm Tuesday at Minnewaska Area.  The Knights posted wins over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (5-3) and Upsala (8-3) to also remain undefeated in the tournament.
