Tanner Bitzan launched a 2-run homer in the first inning to give Brandon-Evansville an early lead in their game at New York Mills on Thursday.  Mills responded with a two-run homer of their own, off the bat of Corey Roberts, tying the game.  The back-and-forth battle ended up with the Chargers posting a 7-6 win over the Eagles.

The game was tied at 6-6 in the top of the fifth when Tony Schaffran singled to score Gaven Jacobson.

Marshall Riedel pitched three-and-two-thirds innings of relief, striking out eight and allowing just one run to earn the victory.

The Chargers racked up ten hits on the day with Bitzan, Jacobson and Riedel each producing multiple hit games.  Bitzan was 3-for-4 at the plate.

Logan Small went 2-for-3 to lead New York Mills.

“It was a true team win tonight with everyone in the lineup making a key contribution at one time or another throughout this game,” said Head Coach Brian Perleberg of B-E.  “I thought Marshall Riedel really made some big pitches when he needed to and Corbin Olson turned in two defensive plays that had a major impact on the outcome of the game.  Tanner Bitzan was seeing the ball well tonight and Gaven Jacobson continued to swing a hot bat.  Tony Schaffran came through with a clutch pinch hit RBI single in the fifth and Jesse Perleberg executed well on offense.  Just an all-around great effort tonight.”
