On a night in which they honored their seniors, the Fergus Falls baseball team turned in their best all-around game of the season as they beat the Perham Yellowjackets 4-1 at Legion Field. Cole Fronning, Cole Knudson, Nic Pearson, and Ashwin Stratton donned the Maroon and Gold for the last time at home, and they went out in style.

After Brock Kotschevar pitched a scoreless first inning, the Otters scored two runs in their half of the first off Perham lefty Noah Rooney. Stratton drew a one out walk, advanced to third on Cole Fronning’s double to left field. Pearson was intentionally walked after a strikeout to load the bases. Kotschevar helped himself as he lined a single up the middle to score both Stratton and Fronning.

The Otter bats were quiet until the 5th inning. Matt Scott led off with a single. He advanced to second on Abel Aho’s sacrifice bunt. Stratton lined a single to right field which advanced Scott to third. Stratton stole second base to set up Knudson with a chance to drive in two runs. The senior delivered with a clutch double down the left field line to give the Otters a four run cushion.

The Yellowjacket hitters were stifled all night long as they scored one run on only three hits. Kotschevar started on the mound and delivered another impressive performance. He didn’t allow a run, gave up only one hit, struck out six batters, and walked three.  Stratton came in to pitch the last two innings to earn the save. He surrendered one run on two hits.

“We saved our best game for the last game of the season," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson.  "We finally played all phases of the game for a full seven innings. It was just a well played high school baseball game, and it was a fitting way for our seniors to go out. We just need to take this momentum into the playoffs, and see what happens.”

The Otters’ playoff season begins on Tuesday as they will travel to Detroit Lakes for a 5:00 game.
