With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Brandon-Evansville softball team was able to score three runs and went on to post a 4-1 victory in the opening round of the Section 6A Tournament on Tuesday in Brandon.

“This game was a battle from the very beginning,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kasi Sieling. “Parkers Prairie is a very tough, well-coached team that made us earn everything we got today.”

Mikenna Pattrin (7IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 5K) went the distance to earn the win in the circle.

“Mikenna threw the ball very well and the defense played extremely well to back her up and make plays to get us out of innings and keep Panther runners from advancing,” reported Coach Sieling. “Sydney Schaefer (1-2, R) provided the spark we needed in the 3rd inning with a well-placed hit, was moved to 3rd by Kristen Kokett (1-2, R) and brought in on a solid hit by Bailey Schaefer (1-3, RBI). Parkers Prairie kept battling with a runner reaching on an error in the 6th and coming around to score on a hit to the outfield with 2 outs to tie the game. In the bottom of the 6th, Kristen Kokett got a hit to set the table for Mikenna to reach on an error and then Haddey Zastrow (2-3, HR, 3RBI, R) to hit her second home run of the year to right center and put us in the lead. We played a tough game and were aggressive on the bases to come out ahead tonight and move into the double elimination round. The road only gets tougher from here with a game against defending state champions New York Mills. If we can play clean defense and execute offensively, I hope we can continue to see where this season takes us.”

The Chargers will now face top-seeded New York Mills in the Sub-Section 6A playoffs at 4:00pm Thursday in Browerville. Each team will play a second game at 5:30pm.
