The Breckenridge Cowboys picked up their 14th win of the season defeating cross town rival Wahpeton 10-6 on Tuesday.

“This was a fun game to watch tonight as both offensive were firing on all cylinders,” commented Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “Wahpeton started off the game scoring 3 runs in the top half of the inning, all of them earned, but I have to give the Cowboys credit. They went about their business and scored 7 runs of their own on 8 hits in that same inning. Defensively, the Cowboys played well except for the 4th inning. We picked a runner off second and threw the ball away and dropped a ball at first base allowing the Huskies to score two runs. But again, the Cowboy offense came to the plate in the bottom half of the inning and scored two of their own runs.”

Eight of the nine players in the lineup had hits for Breckenridge - led by Jeremy Stack with 3 hits, and 3 RBI. Brayden Wahl and Hunter Feigum also had 2 hits each.

The Cowboys needed to keep all their pitchers under the 50 limit pitch count so they would all be eligible for Thursday’s game with Sauk Centre. Carter Haugen pitched the first 2 innings striking out two, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. Connor Twidwell pitched the middle 4 innings striking out three, also giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, only one of them earned. Jake Wendorff came in for the save pitching the final inning.

“It’s been a long time since Breckenridge has played Wahpeton during the high school season so it was fun to get this game in,” added Coach Hiedeman.

Now it’s back to business for the Cowboys, hosting their final regular season game on Thursday.
