Ashby and Hillcrest split their Pheasant Conference softball double header on Monday at Hannah Park in Fergus Falls.  The Arrows were 3-2 winners in the opener and the Comets won the nightcap 10-5.

Josey Ness fanned nine Hillcrest hitters in game one, allowing just four hits in the game.

Ashby got on the board in the top of the second inning when Kalista Aamot doubled to lead things off and scored on a two-out single by Taleeyah Johnson.  Hillcrest tied the game in the bottom of the third.  Ness retired the first two batters with strikeouts, but issued a walk to Mackenzie Foss.  Foss stole second and scored on a single by Juliana Undseth.  In the Ashby fifth, Kyra Aamot led off with a single, stole second and scored on an error.  A sacrifice bunt by Amelia Barry, another Hillcrest error and a wild pitch led to another run as the Arrows took a 3-1 lead.  The Comets scored their second run in the sixth inning when Undseth singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Amanda DeKok.  Hillcrest left two runners on base in the inning.

DeKok (7IP, 8K, 0BB, 1ER, 6H) took the loss in a well-pitched game by both sides.

DeKok (7IP, 5R, 5H, 3K, 1BB) was the winning pitcher in game two as the Hillcrest bats came alive with ten hits.  Madison Ballweg, Mackenzie Foss and DeKok each had multiple hits for the Comets, who ran wild on the bases, recording six steals.

Both teams begin Section 6A playoffs on Tuesday with elimination games.  The Comets are at Browerville/Eagle Valley and the Arrows at New York Mills.
