Lady Spartans Finish Season, Receive Honors

The M State Fergus Falls Lady Spartan softball team competed in the Region XIII tournament Thursday in Waite Park and were eliminated after two losses. The Lady Spartans lost game one 11-3 to Anoka Ramsey and dropped the elimination game 7-5 to Ridgewater College. The Lady Spartans finished the season with a record of 16 wins and 13 losses.

The Lady Spartans did receive some individual honors. Hannah Ekse, a freshman from Perham, received 1st Team All Division honors. Hannah had a .728 slugging percentage for the Spartans. Of her 36 hits in 2019, she had 12 doubles, a triple and three home runs. She had 29 RBI's on the year for M State. 

Anna Carlson, Alexa Mortenson and Allison Stafki were named 2nd Team All Division and Macky Warne received Honorable Mention Honors.

Carlson hit .386 for the squad in 2019, driving in 34 runs. She scored 20 times, stole five bases and had on on-base percentage of .517 for her team. Anna is a freshman from New York Mills.

Stafki is another freshman from Mills and she collected 38 hits this past spring, notching a .487 average with three triples. She also hit a home run and had eight doubles, resulting in 55 total bases for the Lady Spartans

Alexa Mortenson is a freshman from Ulen and she excelled at the plate and as a pitcher.  Alexa hit .349 with 19 RBI. She scored 28 times herself and collected seven steals for the Lady Spartans. Alexa also picked up 13 wins as a starting pitcher for the Lady Spartans.

Macky Warne batted over .400 for the Lady Spartans and hit in the leadoff spot every game. Warne, the team’s lone returning sophomore, is from Park Rapids.
