Thursday proved to be a great night for Breckenridge baseball. The Cowboys swept Pelican in their final two conference games of the year improving their HOL Conference record to 10-2 and their overall record to 13-4. It was also senior night, where 10 senior players and 2 senior managers were recognized.

“Everybody contributed tonight,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “Every player on the Cowboy roster reached base at least once.”

The Cowboys won the first game 9-2 picking up 10 hits and drew an additional 5 base on balls. Multiple players had two hits in the game; Braden Wahl, Cooper Yaggie, Jack Aigner and Connor Twidwell. Cade Kelsen and Luke Arnhalt also picked up a hit. Jake Wendorff threw all 7 innings striking out 6 and only walking one batter, picking up the win.

Pelican Rapids was held to five hits and committed six errors in the game.  Brock Sjolie had two runs batted in to lead the Vikings and Hayden Christenson had two hits and two runs scored.

In game two, the Cowboys picked up an additional 13 hits in a 13-1 decisive victory (6 innings). 10 different players had hits in the game with Connor Twidwell leading the way with 3 RBI’s, two hits and his first varsity home run. Cooper Yaggie threw the first 5 innings, striking out 8 batters and walking one. Carter Haugen threw the final inning, striking out three batters and walking two.

Hayden Christenson scored the lone run of the game for Pelican Rapids after he singled in the first inning and scored on Brock Sjolie's double.  Christenson (4 hits, 3 runs) and Sjolie (3 RBI) provided the only Viking offense of the double header.  Pelican ends their regular season with home games on Monday with OTC and a double header with DGF on Thursday.

“The Cowboys played great defensive again tonight, only committing two errors total on the night,” noted Coach Hiedeman.

The graduating seniors are:
Dylan Pearson, Hunter Feigum, Jeremy Stack, Max Johnson. Hayden Schuler, Jake Wendorff, Joe Skilbred, Cade Kelsen, Luke Arnhalt, Christopher Korinek, Gracie Hennen and David Hieserich.

“The Cowboys play Border West Friday in Graceville which is our 5th game of the week,” added Hiedeman. “Pretty much every week we’ve played 4 or 5 games and we are a little beat up and tired. It will be a challenge for the Cowboys.”
