The Fergus Falls baseball team was in a close game with Moorhead for 3 innings, but then the host team took control with 4 runs in the 4th and 5 runs in the 5th to earn the 12-2, 5-inning walk off win.

After the Spuds scored 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the first, the Otters tied it up with 2 runs of their own in the top of the 2nd. Jack Baker led off the inning with a solid single.  Baker advance to third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on Jack Culbertson’s RBI single. Pinch runner Ashwin Stratton stole second and scored the Otters’ second run on Abel Aho’s single to center.

Cole Fronning started on the mound for the Otters and was throwing well until he ran into control issues in the 4th. He did give up 7 runs, but only one of those runs was earned. He gave up 6 hits, walked 6, and struck out 3.

“We simply shot ourselves in the foot tonight and Moorhead took advantage,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson. “They are a very good team, and you simply can’t give them extra outs and that’s what we did.”

The Otters get a chance to bounce back Friday as they host Crookston in a 5:00pm game.
