The Fergus Falls girls golf team competed along with fourteen other varsity squads at the Brainerd Classic at Maddens.  Minnewaska Area won with a score of 328 with Detroit Lakes second at 345 and Brainerd third at 354.  Fergus Falls was twelfth with a score of 413.

The Otters were led by a 96 from Greta Christenson and a 101 from Amy JohnsonEllia Soydara and Mady Eklund each turned in rounds of 108 to complete the team scoring.  Other Otter scores included a 112 from Lexi McGary and a 123 from Sydney Thacker.

“Amy hit the ball really well today,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “She had a rough last four holes otherwise she would have posted a very solid number.  Greta kept her round together, she too hit the ball well but struggle on the greens which is easy to do on a course like the Classic.  Mady and Ellia could have taken several strokes off there score quite easily, however, a couple bad swings at the wrong time can be penalizing on a difficult course like this.  These two hit a lot of really good shots unfortunately got unlucky a few times today. Lexi got her first opportunity to play varsity for the year. We were pleased with her score.  She wishes it was a bit lower but you always have to take the course you are playing into consideration.  Lexi is going through a swing change and has been very patient this season to get her chance to play.  Sydney is hitting some very nice shots, unfortunately the bad ones are becoming very costly and having her score elevate higher than she would like.”

Anna Cihak of Detroit Lakes was medalist with a 78.  Madi McGinig of Minnewaska Area and Shelby Busker of DL were next, also with 78’s.  Jacqueline Gossen of Minnewaska Area was fourth with an 80 and Emily Harste of Minnewaska took fifth with an 82.  The sixth place medal was awarded to Brainerd golfer Katie Foley.
