The Brandon-Evansville baseball team won a pair of games from Ortonville on Monday, taking the first game 4-3 and completing the sweep with a 5-1 win in the second game.

Heading into the seventh inning in game one the game was tied at 1-1.  Ortonville got a clutch two-out hit, scoring two runs to tip the scales in their favor.  The Chargers battled back in the bottom of the seventh, getting a RBI double from Marshall Riedel and a two-run single from Tanner Bitzan to cap the come from behind walk-off win.

“We got another quality start from Zack Haugen and Jesse Perleberg came on in relief in the seventh inning to keep us in the game,” stated Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  “It was really an exciting finish and I’m happy for the kids as they never gave in and battled until the end.”

The Chargers opened up a 4-1 lead after two innings of play in the second game and they were able to add an insurance run in the top of the seventh to extend their lead.  Ortonville threatened in the fifth and seventh innings, but B-E starting pitcher Tony Schaffran skirted trouble and worked his way out of a couple of jams to preserve the 5-1 victory.

“Tony got off to a bumpy start, but settled in and found a nice groove,” said Perleberg.  “He was changing speeds well and relied on his defense to make the plays.”

Schaffran pitched a complete game and picked up his fourth win of the year.

The Chargers are 5-5 in conference play and 9-5 overall.  Brandon-Evansville will host Parkers Prairie on Thursday and then Hillcrest in a double header on Friday.
