The Breckenridge Cowboys swept Barnesville in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference baseball double header on Tuesday, improving their conference record to 8-2 and 11-4 overall. “It’s amazing how we continue to win these close games,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “You have to take your hats off to the kids, they make big plays when we have to have them.”

In game one the Cowboys won 6-4. It was a game that changed leads 5 different times and each team had 7 hits. Offensively the Cowboys were led by Jeremy Stack, Braden Wahl and Jack Aigner who each had 2 hits and Emmit Vig had one hit. Hunter Feigum reached base three times and scored all three times. “We also stole 8 bases in the game which gave us a huge competitive advantage,” said Coach Hiedeman.

Connor Twidwell started on the mound and threw 4 innings walking one, striking out one and giving up 6 hits. Jake Wendorff pitched the final three innings picking up the win striking out two batters and only giving up one hit. “Jake was clutch tonight, striking out a batter for the third out with bases loaded late in the game,” noted Hiedeman.

In game two, the Cowboys won by the same score, 6-4 in another game very similar to the first one - a game changing leads 4 times. The Cowboys only had 4 hits in game two but drew 7 walk from the Barnesville pitching staff. The big hit of the game came when the Cowboys were down 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th with two outs when Connor Twidwell hit a double scoring two runs. Twidwell scored on a base hit by Max Johnson making the score 6-4. Carter Haugen pitched the first 3 2/3 walking one, striking out one and giving up 4 hits and two runs. Cooper Yaggie pitched the final 3 1/3 picking up the win. Yaggie struck out 3 batters, giving up 4 hits and two runs. The JV also won both of their games vs Barnesville and the 7th and 8th grade team swept Fergus Falls in Breckenridge so it was a good day for Cowboy Baseball.

“The Cowboys are playing really good baseball right now and the way they play the game, they are a lot of fun to watch,” concluded Hiedeman.

The Cowboys have their final conference double header on Thursday at home against Pelican Rapids. It is also Senior Day.
