Fergus Falls took a trip to Alexandria for a Central Lakes Conference baseball double header on Tuesday with the Cardinal posting a 4-0 win in game one and a 6-3 victory in game two.

“Game one was a very well-pitched high school baseball game,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson. “It was played in an hour and fifteen minutes.  Three errors by the Otters led to 3 unearned runs.  A fly ball that could’ve been caught led to the other.”

Cole Fronning led the Otters at the plate with 2 hits while Abel Aho, Cole Knudson, and Michael Maanum each collected one.

“We hit the ball better than we have,” noted Pearson. “Just hit too many right at guys, and we couldn’t string hits together in the same inning.”

Brock Kotschevar gave up 4 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 6 and only walked one batter. Maanum came in to pitch one scoreless inning of relief.

Luke Levasseur (7IP, 5H, 1BB, 3K) was the winning pitcher for the Cards.

Game two saw the Otters limit their mistakes in the field, but also saw the Cardinal bats come alive especially in the 4th inning when they plated 4 runs on the way to a 6-3 win. Isaac Peterson was 4-for-4 with 4 runs batted in for the Cardinals and lead-off hitter Matthew Carlsen scored 3 runs.

Maanum went 4 innings. He gave up 5 earned runs on 9 hits. He struck out 3 and walked only one batter. He also hit a batter that led to Alex’s first run of the game. Jack Baker pitched the last 3 innings in relief. He gave up 1 run on 1 hit. He walked 1 and struck out 1 batter.

The Otters had 7 hits. They were led by Knudson’s two hits. Nic Pearson, Fronning, Kotschevar, Jack Culbertson, and Matt Scott each had one hit.

The Otters next game is a 6:00pm start at Moorhead’s Matson Field on Thursday. They then host Crookston at 5:00pm on Friday.
