The Brandon-Evansville softball team improved their season record to 13-2 with a pair of five-inning victories over Ortonville on Monday.  The Chargers won 12-2 and 15-3.

Mikenna Pattrin held the Trojans to just two hits in the opening game, striking out seven batters and walking one.  Pattrin also knocked in four runs and scored three times as she delivered three hits in four at bats.  Other offensive leaders were Bailey Schaefer (2-4, 3R), Haddey Zastrow (2-3, 2B, 3RBI), Kristen Kokett (1-3, 2R, RBI), Maddie Otto (1-2, RBI), Kerryn Lund (1-2, 2R) and Sydney Schaefer (1-2, 2R).

“We started off slow in the first game, but were able to get things rolling in the first inning and put the ball in play to move runners around,” stated B-E Head Coach Kasi Sieling.  “Defensively, we made some solid plays to back up a strong performance by Mikenna in the circle.”

The Chargers collected 13 hits in the second game, led by Kokett (3-3, 2B, RBI, 3R), Bailey Schaefer (2-4, 2B, R), Pattrin (1-4, 2B, 2RBI), Maddie Otto (2-4, 2RBI, 2R), Olivia Otto (1-3, 2R, RBI), Sydney Schaefer (1-4, RBI, 2R) and Lund (1-3, 2B, R).

“We played a very solid game from beginning to end in the nightcap of this doubleheader,” noted Coach Sieling. “Defensively, it was great to see the girls play more aggressively and attack the ball. We were aggressive in the box and made adjustments up and down the lineup to put the ball in play and string hits together. We saw contributions from top to bottom of our lineup and got a lot of our players opportunities that they took full advantage tonight, which is what we need to see at this point in the season. Eighth grader Taylin Kramer got her first varsity inning in the circle and struck out the side to close this game out, always a very proud moment to see a young athlete succeed like that! Tonight wrapped up 9 consecutive games without a practice so we are looking forward to putting in the work over the next few days to continue to improve and finish the regular season out strong on Friday vs Hillcrest. I’m proud of how the girls battled and continuously adjusted on the fly over this long stretch of games in this crazy spring.”
