Spartans Earn Number 5 Seed in Region XIII Tourney

The M State baseball team (30-17, 11-5 MCAC) earned the number five seed in the Region XIII Tournament which will begin on Wednesday in St. Cloud.  Top seed St. Cloud Technical and Community College (29-5, 14-0 MCAC), coached by Fergus Falls High School and M State grad Jason Fischer, will host the tournament at Dick Putz Field and Faber Fields.   The Spartans will play their first game at 4:00pm Wednesday at Faber Field against Hibbing.

Century College (32-9, 6-1 vs MCAC) is seeded second and Riverland (31-12, 15-1 MCAC) is third.  Hibbing (19-16, 13-2 MCAC) got the number four seed, with Central Lakes (23-21, 8-8 MCAC) sixth, Itasca (17-27, 11-5 MCAC) and Rochester (14-22, 9-7 MCAC) seventh and eighth, respectively.

Spartan pitcher Jake Dykhoff leads the Region in wins with 9, strikeouts with 85 and earned run average at 3.10.  Levi Arnold is tied for third in wins with six.  Skylar Mursu is first with 9 saves.

Matt Pietsch is among the hitting leaders, standing second in runs batted in with 50 and fifth in batting average at .421.  Dykhoff is among the home run leaders, coming in fifth with 4 roundtrippers.
