Ashby and Brandon-Evansville played a baseball double header on Thursday with the Arrows winning game one 15-8 in 8 innings and the Chargers taking game two 4-2.

Ashby scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a solo HR by Jaden Norby, followed by a double by Scott Johnson, and a RBI base hit by Dakota Ecker.

The Chargers answered in their half of the first inning on a Gaven Jacobson solo home run.

Ashby added to their lead with a big four run 4th inning and tagged on two more runs in the top of the 6th to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Chargers came to life in the bottom of the 7th, with a seven run rally to tie the game at 8-8, and sending it into extra innings.

The Arrows grabbed back the momentum with a huge rally of their own in the top of the 8th, scoring seven runs to preserve the win.

“The end of this game was really crazy with both teams scoring a combined 14 runs in the bottom of the 7th and top of the 8th.  Give credit to Ashby, they just kept putting on the pressure and were able to break through when they had to.”

Perleberg sized up game two this way, “The first half of this game was a pitcher’s duel between the Chargers Zack Haugen and the Arrows Hunter Norby as both were cruising along through the first four innings.”

The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Gaven Jacobson walked and later scored on a passed ball.

Ashby regained the lead in the bottom of the 5th on a Torin Olson double, followed by Jaden Norby’s two run home run to left centerfield.

B-E responded with three runs in the top of the 6th with the help of hits from Jacobson and Marshall Riedel to give B-E a 4-2 lead.

Ashby wouldn’t go away quietly though as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th with two outs, but Zack Haugen was able to record a strikeout to end the game and preserve the win for Brandon-Evansville.

“I’m pleased with how we responded in the second game of the double header and we got a very nice pitching performance from Zack Haugen as he was able to throw a complete game and held a solid Ashby offense to only two runs,” said Perleberg.
