Tony Schaffran (4IP, 2R, 4H, 2K) earned the win and Marshall Riedel (3IP, 4K, 1BB) picked up the save on Friday as Brandon-Evansville won a pitching duel against Ottertail Central, posting a 3-2 victory.  The loss went to Cole Brandner (5IP, 3H).  Nathan Stavaas pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Bulldogs.

“It was an evenly matched game with both teams’ pitchers doing an adequate job of throwing strikes and letting the defenses make the plays,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  “OTC is a fundamentally sound ball club and we were fortunate to find a way to come out on top today.”

B-E scored a run in the first inning on an error, a walk and a single by Gaven Jacobson.  Another run crossed the plate on a passed ball as the Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

“We started out shaky again tonight, which proved to be enough to put us away,” said OTC Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson.  “We have to come out better defensively to give us a chance for an early lead.”

In the bottom of the third inning the Bulldogs tied the game.  Jack Grabe led off the inning with a walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Stavaas.

Brandon-Evansville put the game away for good with one run in the fourth inning as a Tony Schaffran single drove in the go ahead run.

Nik Gardin led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-2.

Hendrickson commented, “It was nice to see us break out and get some hits tonight.  We just had some small mistakes and missed out on some scoring opportunities throughout the game.  Cole pitched a really nice game, as he kept a pretty good squad to three hits and Nathan backed him up nicely.”

Brandon-Evansville played an errorless game in the field.
