Brandon-Evansville fell behind 4-1 after two innings on Tuesday afternoon, but came back strong to record a 14-4 five-inning victory over the Barnesville Trojans in Evansville.

Barnesville took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Samuelson and Connor Morse walked and later scored on an error and a balk.  B-E cut the lead in the bottom of the first when Marshall Riedel doubled and scored on Tanner Bitzan’s RBI single.  The Trojans extended their lead to 4-1 in the second inning on a two-run homer by Caleb Ott.  The Chargers exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with the help of six walks, along with hits by Kyle Schaffran, Riedel, and Gaven Jacobson.  They added six more in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring.

“We started out rusty today as we made a costly error early in the game and Zach Haugen was struggling to get comfortable on the mound,” stated B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  “Fortunately, we were able to do a pretty good job of damage control in those early innings until we were able to get things going offensively.  I thought Tony Schaffran came on in relief and did an excellent job, pitching three scoreless innings to close out the game.  Gaven Jacobson (2-3, SB, 2R, 2RBI) and Marshall Riedel (2-4, 3R, 2B, SB) came through with some big hits and both ran the bases aggressively and as a team we received contributions from every player in some shape or form.”

Brandon-Evansville will travel to Battle Lake on Friday for a non-conference game against Ottertail Central.
