The M State Fergus Falls Lady Spartan softball team made the tough trip to Cambridge to play a very good Anoka Ramsey Community and Technical Golden Ram team and came away with a very well-played 5-2 win in game one, but took a step back in game two and lost 10-0.

In game one, Lady Spartan sophomore Macky Warne led off the game with a base hit. Allison Stafki singled moving Warne to third. Warne scored on a base hit by Anna Carlson. Carlson was thrown out trying to steal second but with Stafk on third and two outs, Hannah Ekse launched a rocket shot to left center to give the Lady Spartans a 3-0 lead.

The Golden Rams scored a single run in the bottom of the first to make the score 3-1 Lady Spartans. That scored stood until the top of the third when the Lady Spartans plated two. Stafki and Carslon led off the innings with walks. Stafki scored on a base hit by Ekse and Carslon scored on an RBI ground out by Rylie Lindquist.

AR scored a single run in the fifth inning to make the score 5-2 but Lady Spartan pitcher Alexa Mortenson and the Lady Spartan defense stepped up to shut the door in innings six and seven to give the Lady Spartans a very clean 5-2 victory.

Freshman Alexa Mortenson pitched very well and earned a complete game victory, striking out five Golden Ram batters. The Lady Spartans did not commit an error in the game. Several nice defensive plays were turned in, including some nice catches in right field by Paige Schultz. In the sixth inning, shortstop Warne ranged far to her left to snag a ground ball headed to center field for a base hit. Warne fielded and made an on target throw to end the inning and prevent a Golden Ram rally. The game ended on a fielding gem by third baseman Anna Carlson. Carlson fielded a hard ground ball and made an on target throw to first base from her knees to end the game.

The Lady Spartans took a step back in game two. They committed four first inning errors that led to seven Golden Ram runs. Anoka Ramsey cruised to an easy 10-0 win.

The Lady Spartans are sitting at 6-5 on the year. They are 1-3 in the highly competitive southern division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. They travel to St. Cloud on Wednesday, Rochester on Friday and Austin in Saturday. After that, the remaining schedule is all home games.
