The Ottertail Central baseball team lost a 4-3 decision to Pillager on Tuesday in Battle Lake.  Brady Wermter broke a 3-3 tie with a run scoring single in the top of the seventh inning, bringing home the winning run.

The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead when Cole Brandner’s sacrifice fly scored Drake Larsen in the first inning.  Jack Grabe drove in Andy Weniger with a single in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.  Drake Larsen went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs. Larsen was the starting pitcher, going 4-and-a-third innings, allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out seven.  Nate Stavaas (2.1IP, 1R, 3H, 2K) took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Sam Jensen (5.1IP, 3R, 3H, 7K) started on the mound for the Huskies, but Ty Swenson (1.2IP) earned the win in relief.

Pillager racked up seven hits in the game with Judah Beard and Code Barrett each collecting two hits.

OTC Coach Ryan Hendrickson said, “I am excited for this season to finally get underway.  We spent far too long practicing in the gym and it showed defensively tonight with our three errors. Our errors were aggressive tries, not like we were loose with the ball though.  I am happy with our pitching as I know how hard these guys have worked in the gym preparing for their outings. We will work to get first pitch strikes, and getting up in the count early.  Looking back on the game we stranded 10 Pillager runners on the bases, so we did some good things tonight, too.”

The Bulldogs next action is Thursday at home with Frazee and then Friday at home with Brandon-Evansville.
