The Fergus Falls baseball team was involved in another close battle on Tuesday night as they battled the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud with the Sabres earning a 3-2 win.

The Otters were only able to plate two runs in the game and it happened in their half of the 2nd inning. Cole Knudson led off with a double to left field. He advance to 3rd on Michael Wiederich’s single. Jack Baker drew a walk to load the bases. Brock Kotschevar grounded into a fielder’s choice to plate Knudson with the first run. Michael Maanum drove in Wiederich with a ground ball to the second baseman.

Wiederich started on the mound, and pitched three innings. He gave up three runs but only one of them was earned. He allowed three hits, he struck out three, walked one, and also hit two batters. Ashwin Stratton pitched one inning in relief. He didn’t allow a run while walking two and striking out one batter. Kotschevar pitched the last two scoreless innings. He walked two batters and struck out one.

“We played well enough to win again tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson. “The two errors we had led to two of their three runs.  We make those plays and it’s a different game for sure. We are waiting for that one big hit to drive in some much needed runs. I felt we were not as aggressive in the box as we needed to be in some situations.”

The next game for the Otters is Thursday at home against Rocori. Game time is set for 5:00pm.
