The Fergus Falls boys tennis team won two matches in their 5-2 loss to Sartell on Thursday afternoon.

Matt Niblock recorded a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Eddie Hamilton at number three singles, and the number three doubles team of Declan Young and Blake Schuetzle won their match 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 over Mo Alkhatib and Jacob Fandel of the Sabres.

“We had a nice day for tennis,” commented Fergus Falls Head coach Titus Christianson.  “Matt Niblock played some excellent tennis today.  He was patient and constructed some awesome points by mixing up the pace, spin and depth of his shots.  Declan Young and Blake Schuetzle also played some great points and were able to grind their way to a win.  Overall, this was a great meet for us.”

The Otters number one singles player, Noah Tarczon, lost 6-3, 6-2 to Yash Hindka, while number two singles player Isaac Ahlgren fell to Ben Hoeschen 6-0, 6-2.  At fourth singles, Eli Lawson posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Conner Ackerson.

At first doubles, the team of Maveric Kalenburg and Colton Partain lost to Thomas Connolly and Max Fesernmaier, 6-1, 6-0.  The Otters second doubles team of Joe Connelly and Caleb Danielson lost to Austin Adelman and Patrick Stalboerger, 6-1, 6-0.

“Our JV group also competed very well for the second straight meet,” noted Christianson.  Josh Kasper and Logan Schake played some great tennis and continue to improve each time out.  It’s fun to see them gain confidence in their games each time out on the court.  We’ll continue to improve as we get more time outside together.”

The Otters will host Bemidji at 1:30 and Moorhead at 4:00pm on Monday in a triangular.  They will go to St. Cloud Apollo to face the Eagles and St. John’s Prep on Tuesday, will host Willmar and Thief River Falls on Thursday, and travel to Perham on Friday.
