Brian Evenson begins his 32nd season as Head Coach of the Pelican Rapids girls golf team with state qualifier Ellie Johnson, a junior and 3-year letter winner returning, along with fellow captain and 3-time section qualifier Jenna Stetz, also a junior.

Sophomores Emma Seter and Anna Stachowski, both one-year letter winners and one-time section qualifiers are also back.

“Ellie was 26th out of 88 golfers at state last year and Jenna has extensive section tournament experience, so we have a pair of really good, experienced leaders,” said Evenson.  “There are nine players who could step up and fill varsity spots with Emma and Anna having an experience advantage in the group.  All of these girls have a great attitude with great enthusiasm.  It should be a fun year to see how they progress by the end of the season.”

Senior Jenny Booth sat out last year because of the transfer rule, but will be eligible to play varsity golf this year.  Sophomores Mia Stewart and Moira Fitzsimmons both made great improvements last year in their first year of golf and will have opportunities for varsity golf.  Ninth-graders Jaida Simpson, Sophia Paulson, Ella Backstrom and Sophia Kulsrud also will compete for varsity playing time.

John Eidsness will serve as the assistant coach.

Evenson says defending Section 6A champion Park Christian looks to be the favorite again this year, while Perham is the favorite in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, with Barnesville, Pelican Rapids and Hawley in pursuit.
