The West Central Area girls golf team had a solid 2018 season, finishing second in the Quad County Conference.  With two all-conference players returning the lady Knights are poised to make another good run in the conference.

Section qualifier and all-conference performer Jessica St. Martin, all-conference player Lexi Poyzer, and experienced varsity players Libby Poyzer, Kate Wrolson and Emily Courrier all return from the 2018 squad.

“We are excited to bring back a strong core of five golfers who finished second in the conference last year,” said Head Coach Kari Kreft, now in her 27th year.  “Enthusiasm, experience, composure and work ethic are key positive attributes that the Knights definitely possess.  We look to Jessica’s sound golf skills and the leadership of four strong seniors to give us a successful season.”

The Knights will be looking to fill the sixth spot on the varsity team from a group including returner Ava Jahnke and new varsity golfers Lexi Hunter, Chloe Hagen, Annika Solemsaas and Jenna Johnsrud.

“The short game is always something we focus on and know that if we can make improvements there, our golf game and scores will vastly improve,” said Coach Kreft.  “This is a great group of girls who enjoy working hard and having fun together.  We are excited for winter to cease and enjoy good weather, sunshine and one another’s company.”

Kreft will be assisted by Chelle Dewey.

Ottertail Central is the team to beat in the Quad County Conference, while Lac qui Parle Valley is the favorite in Section 5A.
