Brian Perleberg is in his eleventh season heading up the Brandon-Evansville varsity baseball program.  His 2019 team will have six returning players who saw significant playing time last season as the Chargers went 10-8 overall and 8-4 in the Pheasant Conference.

“We will lean on our returning players to provide the leadership needed to compete in the conference, which will once again be very balanced,” said Perleberg.  “We feel that if we can stay healthy, we should be able to remain competitive in a very solid Section 6A.”

Senior Gaven Jacobson (1B) and juniors Marshall Riedel (SS/OF), Corbin Olson (IF), Tanner Bitzan (3B/P), Jesse Perleberg (OF) and Keagan Schiele (OF/C) are the returning letter winners.

Perleberg will also be looking for varsity contributions from juniors Tony Schaffran (P/2B), Zack Haugen (P/2B), and Trent Landowski (2B/C/OF), sophomores Kyle Schaffran (IF) and Xavier Grussing (IF), and freshmen Tyler Bitzan (C/IF) and Titus Fuller (OF).

“We should be alright defensively and feel that this group of players is hard working, highly coachable, and willing to put the team before themselves,” noted Coach Perleberg.  “Many of the members of this team have some state tournament experience during their Babe Ruth years and hopefully that will help us handle some of the adversity we will be facing.  We are rebuilding our pitching staff as four of our top five pitchers from last year’s team graduated.  We also will be trying to replace some team speed and good bats in the lineup as well, so we have plenty of work to do.”

Perleberg sees Parkers Prairie, New York Mills, Belgrade/Brooten/Elrosa, Border West and Browerville as the top teams in Section 6A.  He will be assisted by Trent Hintermeister, James Huisman and Andrew Stender.
