The West Central Area boys’ varsity basketball team held their awards banquet on Thursday, April 4.  The Knights completed the 2018-19 season with a 15-10 overall record against a tough schedule and a tough sub-section.  They finished third in the Pheasant Conference behind Ortonville and Hancock.

Coach Kraig Hunter said, “It was a fun season with a great group of guys that were close, unselfish and had fun playing basketball. We were an inexperienced team coming into the year and we were proud to finish with 15 wins considering the number of experienced teams we had on our schedule.”

The Knights averaged 63 points per game while giving up a defensive average of 55 points per game.

Coach Hunter concluded saying, “Our two seniors, Teigen Moritz and Gavin Paulson were just outstanding in their character, leadership and work ethic. There is no doubt they will be successful people in life.   They have given a lot of themselves to our basketball program and will always be a part of the WCA Basketball family.”

The Award Winners were as follows:

Jack VanKempen – MVP, Chairman of the Boards, Free Throw Award and All-Conference.

Teigen Moritz – Mr. Consistency, Captain, All-Conference

Grant Beuckens – Assist Leader Award and All-Conference

Gage Staples – Most Valuable Defensive Player and Honorable Mention All-Conference
