A strong core of returning athletes will lead the Ashby-Brandon-Evansville boys track and field team this spring.  They will undoubtedly miss James Strese, who qualified for the Hamline Elite Meet in the discus a year ago and for the state Class A meet in the shot put.  Strese and fellow thrower Avery Wendt were both lost to graduation.

“Most have already established events and are working on speed development and technique,” said Head Coach Jennifer Froemming.  “Eli Anderson returns as the lone senior on the team.  He hopes to remain injury free so he can compete in the 110 hurdles and sprinting.  Junior Sam Fuller is back and will be working on his 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles races.  Blake Merritt is also a junior who will be competing in distance races.”

The sophomore class returns several quality athletes, led by sprinters Cade Carlson, Nathan Baumann, Morgan Storey and Jake Rein, hurdler Kobe Reiland, middle distance runners Deklin Goeden and Nolan Bitzan, along with thrower Michael Cochran.  Freshman middle distance runner Sam Heeter and sprinter Derrick Novotny return along with distance runner Abram Fossell.  Sophomore Evan Shores joins the boys team as a thrower and freshman Wesley Siira is coming off a great cross country season.

Froemming will be assisted by Sam Lange (hurdles), Robert Bosma (distance), Shellee Fuller (relays, sprints), Ken Froemming (volunteer) and Adam Wagner (volunteer).

West Central Area is the returning team champion in the Pheasant Conference and Froemming says Wadena-Deer Creek will be the favorite in 6A.
