The Fergus Falls boys track and field team will be a very young squad, however, the youngsters on the team will benefit from the presence of a solid core group of seniors who bring plenty of experience to the table.

Seniors Tyler Hansen (high jump, middle distance), Caleb Neubauer (sprints, pole vault), Matthew Oehler (distance) and Robert Sewell (sprints, long jump) will lead the Otters with Hansen and Oehler serving as team captains.

Sewell won the section long jump title last season and finished ninth at the state meet.  Hansen was fifth in the 400 and 8th in the high jump at the Section 8AA meet and Sewell was eighth in the 100 meter dash.  The Otters also had two relays place at sections with the 4 x 100 taking sixth and the 4 x 800 finishing seventh.

“Over half of our team is made up of ninth graders or guys new to track,” stated Head Coach Randy Hansen, now in his fourteenth season.  “We have a lot to learn, but we have some good athletes that should see quite a bit of improvement through the year.  It will be fun to see how the guys compete.”

Hansen will be assisted by Derek Meyer (Co-Head Coach), Denny Hystead (Jumps), Ike Carlson (Throws) and Sarah Delaney (Jumps).

Hansen sees Alexandria as the team to beat in the Central Lakes Conference, with the Cardinals and the Moorhead Spuds as the top teams in Section 8AA.

The Otters were scheduled to host the Harrington Invitational on Tuesday, but that meet has been canceled and will not be reschedules.
