Fergus Falls senior Robert Sewell led the Otter boys track team at the Moorhead Athletic Association Indoor Meet at Concordia College in Moorhead on Friday.  Sewell won the long jump with a jump of 20-feet-9 inches.  The Otters scored 86.5 team points to finish second to Moorhead.  The Spuds won the event with 312.5 points and Detroit Lakes (83) was third.

“Nice job by the Otters tonight,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “We are very young so this was the first varsity track exposure for almost half the team.  They competed hard and had a great attitude.  Senior Robert Sewell led the way with a first place in the long jump.  Matthew Oehler had the best race of the night, just barely taking 2nd in the 800.  Tyler Hansen also had a nice high jump.  We are still getting into track and field shape and look forward to training outdoors soon.”

Hansen went 5-feet-8 inches to take runner-up honors in the high jump, edging out teammate Luke Neuman who was third with a jump of 5’6”.  De’Shaun Wallace was sixth (5’2”) and Andrew Starzl tied for seventh (5’0”).  Hansen was also runner-up in the triple jump (33’7.5”) and Owen Spain placed fourth (29’9”).  Hansen claimed third (59.41) in the 400 meter dash.

Oehler’s second place time in the 800 was 2:14.34, just 5-one-hundredths of a second behind winner Billy O’Connor of Moorhead.

In the 55 meter dash, Sewell was fifth (7.05) and Caleb Neubauer was seventh (7.09).

The 4 x 800 relay team of Oehler, Kolsen Papon, Anders Anthonisen-Brown and Conrad Lobb finished second (9:48.65).

The Otters next meet is on Friday, March 29 back at Concordia.
